Athena’s Silverland Desserts and The Oak Park-River Forest Community Foundation have established a fund known as the Athena’s Silverland Desserts Fund for Women and Girls.

The purpose of the fund is to enhance the lives and self-esteem of women and girls in need.

Athena’s and the Foundation are actively looking for not-for-profit organizations (501c3) that would like to apply to receive this grant.

Deadline to apply is Jan.14.

In 2005, Athena was chosen as a model and spokeswoman for Unilever’s Dove Pro-Age campaign, introducing skin care products targeted to women over the age of 50. This experience took her to an appearance on “Oprah” and a feature on the “Today Show.” It also took her to major media and talk show appearances in Canada and Spain, where she opened that country’s Dove Pro-Age campaign. Grateful for her good fortune and for the help she has received from others — including her clients and her hardworking employees — Athena has always believed in giving back to those less fortunate. She decided to use some of the proceeds from her Dove experience to establish this fund in order to provide assistance in the local community.
