Presidents Day will be recognized with the showing of three movies about former United States’ presidents on Monday, Feb. 20, at the Oak Park Arms, 408 S. Oak Park Ave. The public is invited to one, two or all three of the free movies.
1 p.m.: “JFK” starring Kevin Costner and Gary Oldman;
4 p.m.: Frost/Nixon” starring Michael Sheen and Frank Langella; and
7 p.m.: “W” starring Josh Brolin and Elizabeth Banks.
Presidents Day is the common name for the federal holiday officially designated as Washington’s Birthday. As the first federal holiday to honor an American citizen, the holiday was celebrated on Washington’s actual birthday in 1796, the last full year of his presidency, on Feb. 22.
While the holiday is still officially known as Washington’s Birthday, it has become popularly known as “Presidents Day,” honoring both Washington and Abraham Lincoln as well as all the other men who have served as president.
The film festival is free and open to the public. Call Jill Wagner at (708) 386-4040 or visit www.oakparkarms.com.
