RIVER FOREST — After a pair of thieves reportedly made off with hundreds of dollars in purses from the Designer Shoe Warehouse on Dec. 19 and Jan. 1, store personnel were on the look out.
According to River Forest police, a woman who resembled one of the suspects returned the morning of Jan. 17, prompting store personnel to phone police.
Police utilized what they described as high-quality store security video and the array of public-mounted cameras along Lake Street to identify two suspects.
Christina Tharrington, 26, of the 5900 block of Throop, Chicago, was charged with two counts of retail theft. Her alleged accomplice also has been identified and police are seeking to locate her.
Tharrington has a Feb. 15 court date.
River Forest Police Chief Gregory Weiss praised both investigators and the store’s staff for their roles leading to the arrest.
“These are examples of how technology and good, old-fashion police work go hand in hand,” Weiss said.
Weiss said the store video quality was particularly good and made identification easier.
“The rest was good police work by our detectives and patrol division,” he said.
