FRANKLIN PARK — A man has been charged with kidnapping a woman in Franklin Park on Aug. 6.

Jesus M. Cano, 37, of 804 Roberta, Melrose Park, was charged with kidnapping, a Class 2 felony. If convicted, he could serve three to seven years in prison, said Andy Conklin, spokesman for the Cook County State’s Attorney.

A 26-year-old woman was returning home from a party in unincorporated Leyden Township at 3:34 a.m. Aug. 5, according to police. She was walking near Fullerton Avenue and Lincoln when a maroon Chevrolet pulled up.

The driver, whom police identified as Cano, asked if she needed help, then got out of his car and allegedly grabbed her, police said. He allegedly dragged her into the backseat of his car, placed one hand over her mouth and began fumbling with the waistline of his pants.

A couple driving by heard the woman crying out and approached. Cano fled on foot, leaving his car behind, Police Chief Mike Witz said.

Police tracked down Cano and arrested him at 12:30 p.m. Aug. 6.

Cano’s next court date is scheduled for Aug. 8 at Cook County Circuit Court in Maywood.
