New senior services  open house Aug. 11

An open house at the new Oak Park Township Senior Services, 130 S. Oak Park Ave., is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 11.

The new facility offers ground-level access in a completely rehabbed vintage building located within an easy walk to many amenities including the main Public Library , Scoville Park and a wide range of shops and services. Senior use will be limited to 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., weekdays, allowing for other Township public functions, including youth services group programs for families.

Farmers’ Market
Week Aug 5-11

This Saturday, Aug. 11, at the Oak Park Farmers’ Market will coincide with the final day of the week proclaimed each year by the U.S. Department of Agriculture to acknowledge the many benefits of these regular gatherings in communities across the nation. National Farmers Market Week is Aug. 5 through Aug. 11 this year. The Oak Park Farmers’ Market is open from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Saturday from mid-May through October in the Pilgrim Church Parking lot on Lake Street, just west of Ridgeland Avenue. Vendors offer a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables, dried and cut flowers, bedding plants, honey, bread and cheeses from Illinois and neighboring states.

PACE offers special
student pass rates

The suburban public transit service PACE offers high school, junior high and elementary school students special rates during the school year. The Student Haul Pass, available for $30 a month, allows students ages 12-20 unlimited rides from September through May on Pace’s fixed route and Call-n-Ride services, including weekends and holidays. College students can purchase the Campus Connection for $175 per month.

The passes are not valid on CTA or Metra systems.
