The year’s first major snowfall came and went last week but did not seriously impact River Forest, according to village hall.
Village Manager Eric Palm said the village’s response to the 6-inch snowfall went smoothly, probably because public works crews hit the streets at the storm’s outset on Jan. 12.
Palm said crews were out sprinkling salt before there was significant snow accumulation.
What’s more, as the snow continued to fall, the village’s entire fleet of eight plow trucks were sent out. Arterial streets took first priority, Palm said, but the village eventually cleared the residential and collector roads, and then the alleys.
“Every truck [was] on the street,” Palm said.
Taking breaks, the crews worked into the night on Jan. 12 until all the roads were clear Friday morning, he added.
The village did not provide a cost for the snow removal as of Tuesday afternoon.
