Catholic Church changes

Dominican University’s Siena Center will host priest and scholar the Rev. Edward Foley, Capuchin, for its annual Advent Lecture at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 29 in the Priory Auditorium at Dominican’s Priory Campus, 7200 Division St., River Forest.

Foley, the Duns Scotus professor of spirituality and professor of liturgy and music at Catholic Theological Union, will speak on the upcoming changes to the language and practices used in the Catholic Mass. Foley will overview the changes, which were announced by the Church last year and will be implemented in English-speaking Catholic churches on Nov. 27, coinciding with the first Sunday of Advent.

Foley, a past president of the North American Academy of Liturgy, will also provide historical and theological context for the changes, tracing the Church’s desire for new translations to reflect shifts theological philosophies since the Post-Vatican II era. He was a founder and originating member of the executive committee of the Catholic Academy of Liturgy. He sits on the executive committee of the International Academy of Practical Theology and is the author of 18 books and more than 300 scholarly articles.

He earned a master’s degree in divinity from St. Francis School of Pastoral Ministry, a master’s of music from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and a master’s degree in liturgical research from the University of Notre Dame. He also holds a Ph.D. in theology from Notre Dame.

GMAT prep Jan. 21
and 28, Feb. 11, 18

Dominican University’s Brennan School of Business is offering a four-week program to prepare individuals interested in taking the Graduate Management Admission Test, a requirement for entrance to selective business schools.

The preparatory program will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays, Jan. 21 and 28 and Feb. 11 and 18. Class sessions will be held at Dominican’s main campus, 7900 W. Division St., River Forest.

Half of the four-week sessions will review the verbal and analytical portions of the GMAT and the other half will review the quantitative portion of the test. The instructors will review math, test-taking skills and strategy. The GMAT review book is provided with the cost of the course. This program is open to anyone, regardless of which university he or she wishes to attend.
