Not everyone enjoyed time off on Christmas Day!

While most businesses are closed, we found some people working on the holiday. So what’s it like? Here’s what they told us:

Jasmine Carter

Counter staff, Dunkin Donuts on Madison Street, Oak Park

What’s it like to work on Christmas?

It’s nice. It’s joyful. It’s pretty busy and people are in a good mood.

What’s your hope for the New Year?

More customers!

Maggie Chlebda

Beauty Adviser, Walgreens on Madison Street, Oak Park

What’s it like to work on Christmas?

It’s really busy and customers are really happy that we’re open. It feels good. In my family, Christmas Eve is more important than Christmas Day.

What’s your hope for the New Year?

Going to a good college. I’m graduating this year.

Samantha Deuchler

Patrol officer, Oak Park Police Department

What’s it like to work on Christmas?

I’m in my sixth year and probably worked every Christmas. Typically it’s a slower day. It’s OK because families work around officers’ schedules to get together. You know what you’re getting into when you go into this type of profession. It’s a 24-hour job.

What’s your hope for the New Year?

A safe and happy New Year for my family, friends and coworkers. It’d also be nice to get into a little trouble on my time off!

George Genov

Driver, Blue Cab (driving in Oak Park)

What’s it like to work on Christmas?

There’s nothing good about working on Christmas except that hopefully I make a few dollars.

What’s your hope for the New Year?

Hopefully, something good for everybody, including me.

Lilly Stern

Customer service, Fitness Formula Club, Oak Park

What’s it like to work on Christmas?

It’s Happy Hanukkah, for me! I don’t mind working on Christmas. I volunteered to work so that others can celebrate.

What’s your hope for the New Year?

I’ve accomplished my New Year’s goal. I got accepted into the Disney College Program. That was my resolution and I got it early.

Carla Trankina

Front Desk Clerk, Carleton Hotel, Oak Park

What’s it like to work on Christmas?

It’s kind of fun, if you ignore the fact that you’re giving up a little of your family time. It’s good to be with people. They’re in good spirits.

What’s your hope for the New Year?

I hope that I get to see my family a lot and that everyone is healthy.
