You Be the Critic:
Feb. 10 at OP Arms

Oak Park Arms presents its popular monthly series, “You Be the Critic” at the retirement community at 408 S. Oak Park Ave. Hosted by radio announcer Dan Kane and offered to the public at no cost, “Journey through History … Hollywood Style” is the theme of the 2012 movie selections. A year’s worth of historically-based movies — free to the public.

“Dan has planned an extraordinary line-up of films,” said Desi Vasquez, social programming director at the Oak Park Arms. “It’s an enjoyable way to learn history.”

All films are shown at 3:30 p.m. on the second Friday of a month in the Terrace Room. The line-up for the year includes:

Feb. 10: “King Arthur” starring Clive Owen and Keira Knightley;

March 9: “Becket” starring Peter O’Toole and Richard Burton;

April 13: “The Lion in Winter” with Katherine Hepburn and Peter O’Toole;

May 11: “The Adventures of Robin Hood” with Errol Flynn and Olivia de Havilland;

June 8: “Luther” starring Joseph Fiennes;

July 13: “A Man for All Seasons” starring Paul Scofield and Robert Shaw;

Aug. 10: “Elizabeth” starring Cate Blanchett and Joseph Fiennes;

Sept. 14: “Waterloo” starring Rod Steiger, Christopher Plummer and Orson Welles;

Oct. 12: “Amistad” starring Anthony Hopkins, directed by Steven Spielberg;

Nov. 9: “The Alamo” starring John Wayne;

Dec. 14: “Love Actually” starring Hugh Grant, Emma Thompson and Liam Neeson.

“Following each film, Kane leads a discussion that occasionally morphs into a spirited debate,” Vasquez said. “It’s all in good fun.”

The Oak Park Arms is a rental retirement community which provides independent and assisted living apartments and a full schedule of activities and services. Furnished apartments are also available for a short-term stay — a weekend, a week, a month or longer.

See one or see them all. Each movie is free and open to the public.
