The following incidents were listed among the official reports of the River Forest Police Department. Readers are reminded that an arrest does not constitute a finding of guilt. Only a court of law can make that determination.
River Forest
THEFT
An unlocked bike valued at $250, which was left outside the McDonald’s restaurant, 624 N. Harlem Ave., was stolen around 8 p.m. July 30. A 12-year-old boy told police he went to the McDonald’s with a group of friends, and that all the boys left their bicycles unlocked outside of the restaurant. When they returned to the bicycles, his was missing. Police viewed the store security video and determined that the bike was taken by a white male wearing a dark green shirt, dark shorts and carrying a backpack who fled through the Chase Bank drive-through next door to avoid being seen from inside the McDonald’s.
A locked bicycle valued at $550 was stolen between 6:20 a.m. and 5:45 p.m. Aug. 3, from a Metra bike rack in the 7900 block of Hawthorne.
ALCOHOL
Mario Boccia, 57, of 63 Glenview Drive, Northlake, was stopped on the 7200 block of North Avenue at 10:40 p.m. on July after an officer allegedly observed him driving 50 mph in a 30 mph zone. The officer attempted to stop the vehicle, which slowed but continued westbound for a mile before pulling over. Police say Boccia failed field sobriety tests and was transported to the station where a Breathalyzer test indicated his blood alcohol content was .150. Because of two previous DUI convictions, Boccia was charged with felony aggravated DUI, as well as speeding, improper lane usage and failure to yield to an emergency vehicle. He was processed and held pending a bond hearing.
DOMESTIC BATTERY
Peter R. Briggs, 45, of 942 Park Ave., River Forest, was arrested at his residence at 11:03 p.m Aug. 3, and charged with domestic battery. He was processed and held pending a bond hearing.
VIOLATION ORDER OF PROTECTION
Defondy D. Brim, 28, of 7762 Madison, was arrested by police responding to a call on the 7700 block of Madison at 2:04 p.m. Aug. 5. The original caller refused to sign a complaint against Brim, but he was arrested after a name check turned up who had been served with a court order of protection barring him from entering that property.
Oak Park
ROBBERY
Steve L. Bradley, 18, of the 400 block of N. Leclaire, Chicago, was arrested on the 100 block of N. Euclid Avenue at 4:05 p.m. Aug. 1, and charged with robbery following a brief foot chase. Bradley allegedly punched an Oak Park woman in the face and stole her cell phone.
An Oak Park woman was robbed at gunpoint of her cell phone while riding a CTA Blue Line train at the Oak Park Avenue station at 9:10 p.m. July 30. The thief, described a male black, 17-18 years old, 5-foot-9, 170 pounds, with short black hair, muscular build and an earring in his left ear, left the train at the Harlem Avenue station.
An Oak Park man was attacked by two thieves on the 1100 block of Thomas Street between 10 p.m. and 10:20 p.m. Aug. 2, after he entered their minivan. The men demanded money began to punch him in the face and body. They then drove away.
Eric J. Harper, 20, of the 1100 block of Independence, Chicago, and Sameerah Iman Huff, 18, of the 1600 block of Sayre, Chicago, were arrested and charged with robbery at 5:21 p.m. Aug. 2, following a police investigation into a street robbery on the 200 block of N. Elmwood Avenue on July 19. They have an Aug. 10 court date in felony court.
BURGLARY
Calvin Schumate, 53, of the 700 block of N. Latrobe, Chicago, was arrested on the 300 block of N. Elmwood Avenue at 1:19 a.m. Aug. 3, and charged with vehicle burglary after allegedly being found in possession of proceeds from a vehicle burglary on that block.
Antone Winters, 21, of the 1700 block of N. Moody, Chicago, was arrested on the 100 block of N. Menard, Chicago at 4:17 a.m. Aug. 5 and charged with the burglary of an Oak Park man’s car.
Various home electronic including computers, assorted jewelry and a small quantity of cash, valued at $14,010, were stolen from a home on the 1200 block of East Avenue between 8:45 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. Aug. 1.
