RIVER FOREST — Police searching for a suspect in a hit and run traffic accident July 26 found their suspect nearby, after she had allegedly committed a retail theft.

Officers were flagged down by a Forest Park woman on the 7200 block of Lake Street at 5:51 p.m. July 26. The woman told police her car had just been struck by another driver on the 7600 block of Lake Street, who fled the scene without exchanging information.

The other driver apparently didn’t go far. Officers soon located the suspect’s car in the parking lot of the Jewel store.

Latoria Hill, 29, of 1501 W. Spencer, Berwyn, who had a 5-year-old child in her car, was being questioned by police about the hit and run when a person walked out of the Jewel and told them store employees had just tried to stop Hill for allegedly shoplifting.

When police attempted to take Hill into custody, she reportedly circled around her car and allegedly began fighting with the officers, one of whom sustained a cut elbow and forearm. She was retained and arrested after several more officers arrived on scene.

Due to prior convictions, Hill was charged with felony retail theft, aggravated resisting arrest and obstructing a police officer. She was also charged with leaving the scene of a property damage accident, failure to secure a child in a safety restraint system, operating a vehicle without insurance and other traffic related offenses.

She was ordered held in lieu of $30,000 bond.
