The 7th Illinois House of Representative District is turning out to be a battleground in the west suburbs.

The district, which under the new redistricting map includes River Forest, Westchester LaGrange Park, Forest Park, Maywood, Hillside, Melrose Park and Bellwood, has four candidates vying for the seat previously held by Karen Yarbrough.

One candidate, however, is outpacing the others in financial contribution and political clout. It can be seen in yard signs, expensive glossy mailers and a several months’ long spot on an electronic billboard overlooking the Eisenhower Expressway.

Emanuel “Chris” Welch boasts he is “tested and proven.”

This series intends to fact check his claims.
